Skipton Building Society launches the first step in their integrated brand re-positioning campaign this week. This is the first work to launch since Red Brick Road won the business in a competitive pitch in 2024.
Returning to the company’s founding principles, the new Founded on Fairness brand platform signals a renewed focus on the company’s purpose: to continue to help people own homes, save for their future, and build financial resilience. With home affordability challenges becoming starker, and one in three people in the UK having no savings, their role is more vital than ever.
The three TV spots, made by Red Brick Road and directed by Ric Cantor with Epoch UK X Knucklehead, with media planning and buying through EssenceMediacom North, bring to life everyday unfairnesses through relatable and humorous scenarios. The spots feature character actor Simon Farnaby, best known for his performances in Ghosts and The Detectorists. Farnaby plays an anti-hero, who is treating his unsuspecting victims unfairly. Skipton Building Society, in contrast, is the embodiment of all things fair.
The first spot that airs on 9th of April shows a couple entering a Fortune Telling tent at a fairground – the fortune teller they encounter proceeds to charge them a princely sum for some totally made-up advice about their “future”. Skipton can, of course, do better, offering everyone free advice on their money so they can plan ahead – irrespective of income.
It is supported by OOH, Radio and Social and is the first step in a wider brand refresh that seeks to position Skipton as the fair Building Society, and a better alternative to the high-street banks.
Nick Mortimer, CMO of Skipton Building Society said: “It’s with great pleasure that we launch this step on the road to a Fairer financial future for all. We know that people want financial institutions that act with integrity, and the Skipton differences: being member owned, putting people first, and demonstrating fairness in products, policies and services are more motivating than ever. Fairness is a founding principle for the business. So, this campaign has always felt the right way to bring that to life.”
Matt Davis, Owner and ECD of Red Brick Road said: “We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve achieved with Skipton over this last year and are delighted to be bringing the Founded on Fairness brand platform to life with such entertaining and enjoyable storytelling.”
